The Wisdon of Restrained Lips diane amberg, September 28, 2004 at 4:36:00 AM BST
by Don Ruhl Read Proverbs 10--12 The Wisdom of Restrained Lips Many there are who believe that what immediately enters their hearts when they hear something, they must comment on it. They want everyone to know where they stand, and they think it strange that others do not operate the same way. There is a time to speak and a time to remain silent. Often speaking too much gets us into trouble. 19 In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise. (Pro. 10:19, NKJV). He who thinks silence is strange, implies that the Holy Spirit, who moved Solomon to write Proverbs 10:19, is strange. Therefore, we must learn when to speak and when to remain silent, and when it is the time to speak to do so with words that are appropriate. Make an extra effort today to catch yourself before you speak, figuring out if it is profitable and edifying to speak, and if so, how shall you speak. This will make you operate a little slower, but later you may discover that it is better. by Don Ruhl Read Proverbs 1 and 2 Why is the Book of Proverbs in the Bible? Proverbs 1:2-7 answers the question. Let me give you verse two, for attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight; (Proverbs 1:2, NIV). You will never meet a successful person who first did not recognize his or her need for wisdom, discipline, and insight. Do you need those? To whom then should you go but to the Lord? To what book then should you turn but Proverbs? Read a chapter of Proverbs every day that corresponds to the day. For example, on the twenty-third day of the month, read Proverbs 23. Do that for a year and see what happens to your wisdom, discipline, and insight. Do it for a lifetime and watch what happens! Ignore, Be Ignored diane amberg, September 24, 2004 at 5:29:00 AM BST

Otherwise, we would never succeed in life. The real question is what is our guide for judging. Why can we not simply follow the example of our Master and Lord? He said, 30 "I can of Myself ... more ... by diane amberg @ 5/18/05, 5:08 AM Do You Ever Feel Like Just a Name? by Don Ruhl Read the Bible in a Year This morning read First Chronicles 1--3 Do You Ever Feel Like Just a Name? Think on the manner, in which the Book of First Chronicles begins, 1 Adam, Seth, Enosh (1 Chr. 1:1). In this way begins the longest genealogy in the Bible. The names continue to the end of the ninth chapter! Were these just names? Adam; who is he? by Don Ruhl Read the Bible in a Year This evening read John 5:1--23 Jesus healed a man. Praise God! However, Jesus healed him on the Sabbath. Uh oh. Some people were ready to kill Jesus for this perceived violation of the Sabbath Law. 16 For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath (Joh. 5:16). Jesus did a good thing. Yet, people criticized Him severely for it. by Don Ruhl Read the Bible in a Year This evening read John 4:30--54 The disciples went into a town to buy food while Jesus remained out of the town. There He engaged a woman in conversation. When the disciples returned, here is what happened, 31 In the meantime His disciples urged Him, saying, "Rabbi, eat." 32 But He said to them, "I have food to eat of which you do not know" (Joh. 4:31, 32).
