Jesus Has a Pillow! diane amberg, February 25, 2005 at 4:07:00 AM GMT
by Don Ruhl Read the Bible in a Year This evening read Mark 4:21--41 Jesus Has a Pillow! On one occasion Jesus said that He had no where to lay His head, showing a man that following Him is no easy task, and will bring on suffering. However, in another place, the Bible says this, 38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing? (Mar. 4:38). In this case, Jesus is doing so well that He has a pillow and His contentment allows Him to sleep during a life-threatening storm! When you expect to have peace, you may have trouble. When you expect to have trouble, you may have peace. Therefore, let us not try to predict life's outcomes, but rather trust our lives to Him who leads us. by Don Ruhl Read the Bible in a Year This morning read Numbers 5 and 6 My Desire For You The high priests in Israel are to bless Israel with these words, The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace. (Num. 6:24--26). My dear friends, this is also my desire for you. These e-mail devotionals are not to make me known, but that you might know the Lord and know the fullness of His blessings for you. I believe with all my heart that all blessings come from the Lord, but everything begins with knowing what He says to us in the Scriptures. You shall have peace when you know His will for you. Therefore, I just uttered a prayer for you and I used the blessing from Numbers chapter 6 as the guide for my prayer. by Don Ruhl Read the Bible in a Year This evening read Mark 3:20--35 Who Is Out of His Mind? A large crowd gathers around Jesus so that He cannot even eat. Watch how his family reacts to this, 21 But when His own people heard about this, they went out to lay hold of Him, for they said, He is out of His mind (Mar. 3:21). Many people throw around the very expression that these people use about Jesus. Listen carefully to what the world says about who is out of his mind. Are they following biblical standards? Are they just following what is popular? Will you be on their list next? by Don Ruhl Read the Bible in a Year This morning read Numbers 3 and 4 Work, Lest You Die God warns Moses not to cut off the family of the Kohathites, who are of the tribe of Levi (Num. 4:18). Therefore, God says to Moses, 19 but do this in regard to them, that they may live and not die when they approach the most holy things: Aaron and his sons shall go in and appoint each of them to his service and his task (Num. 4:19). He also warns in verse 20, that the Kohathites are not to watch as the holy things are being covered. Zero in on verse 19 above. The Kohathites shall live when they do their work. Is there a lesson in there? Oh, I think so. God designed men and women to be workers. We function best when working. This is true in both the world and in the church. So, what are you doing for the world and what are you doing for the church? Do you want to live before God? Get busy and work! by Don Ruhl Read the Bible in a Year This evening read Mark 3:1--19 Jesus Changed Their Lives The apostles are like all people, having dreams and ideas of what they shall do in life. All that changes when they meet Jesus. 14 Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach (Mar. 3:14). What were their dreams before this appointment? I am sure that the dreams do not include the far-reaching changes that are coming to them when Jesus makes them preachers. They will travel to places that they never imagined. They will meet the most wonderful and the most horrible people in the world. They will do things and things will be done to them that never entered their minds. This is what it is like when you meet Jesus and start to work for Him. Look over your life since meeting the Lord Jesus Christ. What rich experiences have you had? Otherwise, we would never succeed in life. The real question is what is our guide for judging. Why can we not simply follow the example of our Master and Lord? Think on the manner, in which the Book of First Chronicles begins, 1 Adam, Seth, Enosh (1 Chr. 1:1). In this way begins the longest genealogy in the Bible. The names continue to the end of the ninth chapter! Were these just names? Adam; who is he? by Don Ruhl Read the Bible in a Year This evening read John 5:1--23 Jesus healed a man. Praise God! However, Jesus healed him on the Sabbath. Uh oh. Some people were ready to kill Jesus for this perceived violation of the Sabbath Law. 16 For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath (Joh. 5:16). Jesus did a good thing. Yet, people criticized Him severely for it. by Don Ruhl Read the Bible in a Year This evening read John 4:30--54 The disciples went into a town to buy food while Jesus remained out of the town. There He engaged a woman in conversation. When the disciples returned, here is what happened, 31 In the meantime His disciples urged Him, saying, "Rabbi, eat." 32 But He said to them, "I have food to eat of which you do not know" (Joh. 4:31, 32).
