Who Wants th Hear Our Singing? diane amberg, March 19, 2005 at 4:56:00 AM GMT
by Don Ruhl Read the Bible in a Year This morning read Deuteronomy 32--34 Who Wants to Hear Our Singing? Moses begins singing, 1 Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak; And hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. (Deu. 32:1). Who wants to hear God's people singing? Heaven delights to hear earth singing of the mighty works of God. Who wants to hear God's people singing? Earth wants to hear of heaven's works among men. Therefore, the next time you assemble with the church, sing with all your might. by Don Ruhl Read the Bible in a Year This morning read Deuteronomy 26 and 27 Confirm the Law God stresses repeatedly in the Old Testament to Israel that they must give heed to His word. It is not good to ignore the Creator! Moses tells the people, 26 Cursed is the one who does not confirm all the words of this law (Deu. 27:26). It is still important to confirm God's word, in our hearts and minds, with our tongues, and through our lives. Look at your life today and see whether you can honestly say that you confirm all the words of God's word. Today's message is a repeat and modification from 2002. by Don Ruhl Read the Bible in a Year This evening read Mark 14:27--53 Was He Hurt? Does it hurt Jesus to tell His disciples that they are going to forsake Him? 27 Then Jesus said to them, All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: 'I will strike the Shepherd, And the sheep will be scattered.' (Mar. 14:27). Jesus is not arrogant and He knows the heart of men. He came because of our weaknesses, not our strengths. I think it hurt Him to utter these words. He did not want to hurt them, nor did He want them to hurt Him. He loves these men and it no doubt hurts Him to reveal to them that they will let Him down. There are countless things Jesus suffered that day! Why? Because He loves me so! by Don Ruhl Read the Bible in a Year This evening read Mark 14:1--26 Do Your Best A woman anoints the head of Jesus with some very expensive oil. Several of the disciples of Jesus criticize her for wasting such valuable oil. They argue that they could have sold the oil instead and given the proceeds to the poor. Who can criticize giving to the poor? Yet, the poor are always with us, that is, if we always sell everything, we will never rid the world of the problem of poverty. In this case, the woman was seeking to honor Jesus, and that is something that can be satisfied. Therefore, the Lord says to His disciples, 8 She has done what she could (Mar. 14:8a). That is all that the Lord asks of us. So then, have I done what I can? by Don Ruhl Read the Bible in a Year This morning read Deuteronomy 23--25 Some Will Try to Curse You, But God Shall Bless You! Moses reminds Israel of what Balaam tried to do, and what God did. 5 Nevertheless the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam, but the LORD your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the LORD your God loves you (Deu. 23:5). The word of God guarantees that people, both in and out of the church, will attempt to curse you, but do not despair! Why should we not tremble over this prospect? We should not tremble for the same reason that Israel was not to tremble; God loves us. He sent His blessed Son to die for us to save us from hell; do you think He is now going to abandon us when people curse us? Otherwise, we would never succeed in life. The real question is what is our guide for judging. Why can we not simply follow the example of our Master and Lord? by Don Ruhl Read the Bible in a Year This evening read John 5:1--23 Jesus healed a man. Praise God! However, Jesus healed him on the Sabbath. Uh oh. Some people were ready to kill Jesus for this perceived violation of the Sabbath Law. 16 For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath (Joh. 5:16). Jesus did a good thing. Yet, people criticized Him severely for it.
