by Don Ruhl Read Proverbs 10--12 The Wisdom of Restrained Lips Many there are who believe that what immediately enters their hearts when they hear something, they must comment on it. They want everyone to know where they stand, and they think it strange that others do not operate the same way. There is a time to speak and a time to remain silent. Often speaking too much gets us into trouble. 19 In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise. (Pro. 10:19, NKJV). He who thinks silence is strange, implies that the Holy Spirit, who moved Solomon to write Proverbs 10:19, is strange. Therefore, we must learn when to speak and when to remain silent, and when it is the time to speak to do so with words that are appropriate. Make an extra effort today to catch yourself before you speak, figuring out if it is profitable and edifying to speak, and if so, how shall you speak.
